FORT ONTARIO, OSWEGO NY

This past weekend, I was up in Oswego NY with some time to kill.  We drove around looking for a place to photograph and came across Fort Ontario.  Before this weekend, I didn't know the place existed.  It is a star-shaped fort dating back to the early 1840's with 1863 – 1873 improvements.  The site includes several underground artillery casemates, rifle galleries, east and west guardhouses and storehouse, among other buildings.  The place served as a camp in the United States for victims of the Nazi Holocaust under the special order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Some pics from our visit...

This "soldier" politely asked if anyone was adverse to loud noises and of course we all said no.  He proceeded to shoot his rifle out this window...it was SOOOOO LOUD; almost knocked us off our feet!  We were underground and the sound was loud as it bounced off the walls of the underground chambers.  He then continued to fire another shot.  We decided to get out of there...

Not sure what happened to this guy...

This girl looked a little out of place at Fort Ontario...
