DAN'S ROCK OVER LOOK in LANACONING, MD

This past weekend, we drove to Maryland for the weekend to meet up with a group of photographer friends.  We drove down on Friday night after work and arrived at our hotel around midnight. The next morning, we met up with our friends who had already gotten an early start and scouted out the area. Ted had found a beautiful overlook called Dan's Mountain and wanted to take us all back there.  At the time, I didn't know why it had such an unusual name but I later read that the mountain is named after Daniel Cresap who was the son of a pioneer who often hunted with a Delaware Indian friend named Nemacolin.  While pursuing a bear in a tree, Daniel fell and lay unconscious until Nemacolin found him, an dragged Daniel home to safety.  Since that event, the mountain has been known as Dan's Mountain. The highest peak is called Dan's Rock.

The area is populated with about 15 cell towers; however, they didn't take away from the view.  As you can see, over the years, graffiti has been pained onto the rocks. Normally I wouldn't like graffiti in such a natural and beautiful place but it actually added to the beauty because of the bright colors against the skyline.
